My name is Sarah, and I am a nanny with 6 years of experience in others' homes, in addition to the invaluable experience I gained in my home from being the oldest of 4 children and my mom's "right-hand girl". I have also demonstrated professionalism and capability in the corporate world, but my first love is providing children with a first-class alternative to the uninterrupted nurture and love they would receive were their parents able to be with them at all times.
I have also gained experience in household management (organization, cooking, cleaning, planning and catering social gatherings for families) and was well trained by my mother, who is a professional household manager. I have received formal training in home economics and childcare during high school and college, as well as even more valuable hands-on experience through my work as a nanny both during and after my high school and college careers. I have held both full- and part-time positions with infants through middle school-aged children. Several of my clients have been stay-at-home parents, so I have been able to coordinate care/discipline styles with other caregivers, as well as to provide care in a more independent setting.
My childcare style/philosophy is hands-on and interactive. Children I have started care for as toddlers have asked their parents for me repeatedly for months and even years after I was no longer their caregiver (due to a change in location) because "Sarah plays with me." I don't believe in being a "human entertainment center" -- or in encouraging children to veg out in front of the electronic one. Rather, I stimulate children to find their own forms of recreation and make myself available to provide direction, supervision, and companionship.
My discipline style/philosophy is gentle but firm. I believe in always choosing positive reinforcement over negative, setting realistic but sturdy boundaries, and always, always showing the child consistency. I believe once I earn a child's trust, cooperation comes naturally (most of the time!), and have seen this philosophy hold true time after time.
